Large Landscape of 4d Superconformal Field Theories from Small Gauge Theories

We systematically explore the space of renormalization group flows of four-dimensional N=1 superconformal field theories (SCFTs) triggered by relevant deformations, as well as by coupling to free chiral multiplets with relevant operators. In this way, we classify all possible fixed point SCFTs that can be obtained from certain rank 1 and 2 supersymmetric gauge theories with small amount of matter multiplets, identifying 7,346 inequivalent fixed points which pass a series of non-trivial consistency checks. This set of fixed points exhibits interesting statistical behaviors, including a narrow distribution of central charges (a, c), a correlation between the number of relevant operators and the ratio a/c, and trends in the lightest operator dimension versus a/c. The ratio a/c of this set is distributed between 0.7228 and 1.2100, where the upper bound is larger than that of previously known interacting SCFTs. Moreover, we find a plethora of highly non-perturbative phenomena, such as (super)symmetry enhancements, operator decoupling, non-commuting renormalization group flows, and dualities. We especially identify amongst these fixed points a new SCFT that has smaller central charges (a, c) = (633{2000},683{2000}) than that of the deformed minimal Argyres-Douglas theory, as well as novel Lagrangian duals for certain N=1 deformed Argyres-Douglas theories. We provide a website https://qft.kaist.ac.kr/landscape to navigate through our set of fixed points.

Surface defects in N=4 Super Yang-Mills: exact results and holographic bootstrap

We study two-point functions of chiral primary operators in N=4 Super Yang-Mills in the presence of a half-BPS surface defect. Such a defect preserves only the diagonal combination of transverse rotations and of a global U(1) R-symmetry, so that the correlator depends on one additional cross-ratio and splits into sectors of definite angular charge. We solve the superconformal Ward identities and construct the bulk and defect superconformal blocks in all sectors, including the charged ones, which have no analogue for defects preserving transverse rotations. The solution contains a holomorphic sector, which we fix non-perturbatively by mapping it to a chiral algebra correlator. We extend this map to defects breaking transverse rotations, where it requires a redefinition of the modes of the two-dimensional current algebra, and use it to fix the charged sectors as well. We then use the defect dispersion relation to reconstruct the full correlator of the dimension-two chiral primary at leading order at large N and strong coupling. In the charged sectors long multiplets are absent and the answer is conjecturally exact in both N and the coupling; expanding it at weak coupling, we find perfect agreement with known results. From these correlators we extract infinitely many new pieces of defect CFT data. Finally, we reproduce the strong-coupling answer by an independent Witten diagram bootstrap on the rotation-invariant locus.

Asymptotic Safety in Gauge Theories beyond Four Dimensions: Perturbative Tests and Fixed-Point Mergers

Non-Abelian gauge theories above four dimensions may admit an interacting ultraviolet fixed point through the competition between canonical scaling and gauge-field antiscreening. Using the four-loop mathrm{MS} beta function continued to D=4+2ε, we determine the largest dimension D_{pt}=4+2ε_{pt} below which successive loop corrections to the fixed point remain hierarchically ordered under a specified ratio criterion, and map D_{pt} over color and flavor numbers for fermions in the fundamental representation of SU(N). At D=5, we construct rational anomalous dimensions with a fixed, pole-regularized denominator inspired by the functional renormalization group (fRG). Matching to the mathrm{MS} series through one, two, and three loops produces progressively smaller shifts in the critical flavor number and coupling at the ultraviolet--infrared merger (the point where the infrared and ultraviolet fixed points coincide), yielding N_f^{cr}simeq 2.09 , N at large N in the three-loop construction. This low-order stabilization, together with qualitative evidence from fRG flows including higher gauge operators, suggests a potential merger scenario that bounds the candidate asymptotically safe region in flavor number. The resulting color--flavor map provides guidance for five-dimensional model building by displaying both the baseline perturbative-control boundary and the candidate three-loop merger boundary. Four-loop matching, however, retains an interacting ultraviolet fixed point beyond the three-loop merger boundary, with no merger found for integer 2le Nle15 and 0le N_f/Nle11/2. The sensitivity of the fixed-point structure to higher-order terms leaves both scenarios open, highlighting fixed-point annihilation as a potential constraint on five-dimensional asymptotic safety.

Noncompactness for the constant Q_{2N}-curvature problem

For every integer Nge4, we construct a fixed smooth, non-locally-conformally-flat metric on the n-dimensional unit sphere S^n for which the constant Q_{2N}-curvature equation admits an L^infty-unbounded sequence of positive solutions. The construction applies for nge2N+20 when N=4,5, nge2N+19 when 6le Nle8, nge2N+18 when 9le Nle17, and nge2N+17 when Nge18. For each L in N cup {0}, the metric can be chosen arbitrarily close to the round metric in the C^L norm. Together with the known cases N=1,2,3, this establishes noncompactness at every order, with dimension bounds that we expect to be optimal. We derive an explicit formula for the fixed-volume Hessian of total Q_{2N}-curvature in transverse-traceless (TT) directions at closed Einstein metrics satisfying Ric=(n-1)g. Building on Juhl's formulas, we identify this Hessian, for every NinN and n>2N, as a degree-N polynomial in the Lichnerowicz Laplacian. For the metric perturbations generated by algebraic Weyl tensors in the construction, the quadratic reduced energy with fixed bubble center is a positive multiple of this Hessian restricted to a four-dimensional TT space. Differentiation with respect to the bubble scale then yields a finite matrix whose exact sign analysis establishes the required indefiniteness in the stated dimension ranges. After continuation to real n, this matrix changes from negative definite to indefinite at n_N=2N+a_*+c_*N^{-1}+O(N^{-2}) as Ntoinfty, with a_*approx16.201871 and c_*approx13.512880, explaining the eventual bound nge2N+17.

An Infinite Family of Non-Rational VOAs from Strongly Coupled 4d Higgsless SCFTs

We study an infinite family of strongly coupled four-dimensional mathcal N=2 superconformal field theories (SCFTs) distinguished by a trivial Higgs branch, known as the (A_2,D_{3m+1}) Argyre-Douglas theories. We propose that their associated vertex operator algebras (VOAs) are the doublet algebras mathcal A(4m+2), an infinite family of non-rational vertex operator superalgebras with a remarkably simple strong generating set of only three fields. We provide several highly nontrivial checks of this proposal. In particular, we reproduce the four-dimensional conformal anomalies a and c from the VOA and analytically prove the exact equality between the Schur index of the SCFT and the supercharacter of the VOA. A key ingredient is a diagonal-gauging realization of the (A_2,D_{3m+1}) theories in terms of two simpler building blocks, which makes the Schur-index computation tractable. Remarkably, we find that the resulting Schur index of the (A_2,D_{3m+1}) theory coincides with that of mathcal N=4 SU(2) Super-Yang-Mills theory, up to an overall prefactor and an appropriate identification of fugacities. We also discuss a generalization to the two-parameter family (A_{2s},D_{(2s+1)m+1}), whose members likewise have trivial Higgs branches and admit diagonal-gauging realizations. A particularly interesting subfamily is (A_{2s},D_{2s+2}), for which the four-dimensional conformal anomalies coincide, a=c. Our results reveal a systematic connection between Higgsless SCFTs, diagonal gauging, and strongly finite but non-rational vertex operator algebras.

Non-Holomorphic Impact on t-b-τ Yukawa Unification in minimal GMSB

We study and explore the low scale implications of Yukawa unification in the minimal gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking models. We also assume non-zero non-holomorphic terms, with which the YU solutions can be accommodated in the cases with μ> 0. These results can be considered a direct effect from the non-holomorphic terms, but they also lead to testable low scale implications compatible with YU. We observe abundant solutions consistent with the Higgs boson mass. This constraint leads to heavy strongly interacting supersymmetric particles, while the electroweak sector can be realized relatively lighter and they can be probed by several experiments. We find that the chargino can be lighter than 1 TeV and it is degenerate with the lightest neutralino in most of such solutions. Consistent solutions in this region can accommodate charginos as light as about 120 GeV, and they will be tested more likely soon by the analyses over the compressed spectra. These solutions are also be subjected in the lifetime analyses. Our analyses identify such light charginos decaying in about 10^{-2} ns. Probing such points may need a slight improvement in sensitivity of the analyses, and one can expect them to be tested very soon. In the same region, stau is realized to be another light supersymmetric particle, and some of the solutions can be inconsistently lighter. We find that it can weigh as light as about 600 GeV consistently, and it can be tested also soon over its lifetime. We summarize and also exemplify our findings with five benchmark scenarios. Most of the benchmark solutions also reveal that the solutions can be tested in heavy Higgs boson searches, which shape the whole Higgs boson spectrum in models.

Precision holography for non-conformal branes

We set up precision holography for the non-conformal branes preserving 16 supersymmetries. The near-horizon limit of all such p-brane solutions with p \leq 4, including the case of fundamental string solutions, is conformal to AdS_{p+2} x S^{8-p} with a linear dilaton. We develop holographic renormalization for all these cases. In particular, we obtain the most general asymptotic solutions with appropriate Dirichlet boundary conditions, find the corresponding counterterms and compute the holographic 1-point functions, all in complete generality and at the full non-linear level. The result for the stress energy tensor properly defines the notion of mass for backgrounds with such asymptotics. The analysis is done both in the original formulation of the method and also using a radial Hamiltonian analysis. The latter formulation exhibits most clearly the existence of an underlying generalized conformal structure. In the cases of Dp-branes, the corresponding dual boundary theory, the maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory SYM_{p+1}, indeed exhibits the generalized conformal structure found at strong coupling. We compute the holographic 2-point functions of the stress energy tensor and gluon operator and show they satisfy the expected Ward identities and the constraints of generalized conformal structure. The holographic results are also manifestly compatible with the M-theory uplift, with the asymptotic solutions, counterterms, one and two point functions etc of the IIA F1 and D4 appropriately descending from those of M2 and M5 branes, respectively. We present a few applications including the computation of condensates in Witten's model of holographic YM_4 theory.

Complex Worldline Instantons in (Anti-)de Sitter Space

We study complex saddle points of the worldline path integral for massive charged particles in two-dimensional maximally symmetric backgrounds threaded by homogeneous electric fields. Within the worldline formalism, we show that the semiclassical saddles generically require complexifying both the target spacetime and the proper-time parameter. The resulting solutions comprise two slices of a single complex family, distinguished by the direction of proper-time evolution. The one evolving in imaginary proper time carries an action that typically controls the exponential suppression of non-perturbative effects, while that evolving in real proper time may encode additional complex phases responsible for quantum interference between saddles. Treating this family as a whole, we give a prescription for constructing and classifying all topologically inequivalent instanton sectors, and we find that the worldline action depends only on their topological data, namely winding numbers around the compact directions and certain isolated punctures. Moreover, in Anti-de Sitter spacetime, the qualitative structure of the solutions is governed by the dimensionless ratio R |eE|/m (R being the curvature radius), which distinguishes sub-extremal, extremal, and super-extremal regimes. By contrast, no analogous distinction occurs in de Sitter---where the instantons are insensitive to this ratio---or in Minkowski spacetime, which lacks a curvature scale altogether. We also recast the action as a sum over residues of the relevant (non-conserved) conjugate momentum, making transparent which analytic data control each contribution. Finally, we discuss the subtleties that arise when solutions built in various local patches are lifted to global (Anti-)de Sitter space. These impose further necessary conditions on which saddles can in principle contribute to the one-loop path integral.

More on the Weak Gravity Conjecture via Convexity of Charged Operators

The Weak Gravity Conjecture has recently been re-formulated in terms of a particle with non-negative self-binding energy. Because of the dual conformal field theory (CFT) formulation in the anti-de Sitter space the conformal dimension Delta (Q) of the lowest-dimension operator with charge Q under some global U(1) symmetry must be a convex function of Q. This property has been conjectured to hold for any (unitary) conformal field theory and generalized to larger global symmetry groups. Here we refine and further test the convex charge conjecture via semiclassical computations for fixed charge sectors of different theories in different dimensions. We analyze the convexity properties of the leading and next-to-leading order terms stemming from the semiclassical computation, de facto, extending previous tests beyond the leading perturbative contributions and to arbitrary charges. In particular, the leading contribution is sufficient to test convexity in the semiclassical computations. We also consider intriguing cases in which the models feature a transition from real to complex conformal dimensions either as a function of the charge or number of matter fields. As a relevant example of the first kind, we investigate the O(N) model in 4+epsilon dimensions. As an example of the second type we consider the U(N)times U(M) model in 4-epsilon dimensions. Both models display a rich dynamics where, by changing the number of matter fields and/or charge, one can achieve dramatically different physical regimes. We discover that whenever a complex conformal dimension appears, the real part satisfies the convexity property.

Safety of dynamical SUSY breaking and gaugino condensation in models of spontaneous CP violation

Solving the strong CP problem with spontaneous CP violation (SCPV) in SUSY requires that the constant term of the superpotential and the SUSY-breaking F-term be real to high accuracy. When both are generated dynamically, by gaugino condensation and by dynamical SUSY breaking (DSB), their phases need not vanish even if every theta-angle vanishes and every coupling is real; e.g., the multivalued non-perturbative superpotential may sit on a branch with a complex phase. In fact, gaugino condensation, in pure SUSY Yang-Mills theory and in its Affleck-Dine-Seiberg generalization, is safe only for N_c - N_f in {1,2} (N_c = 2 for pure SYM); otherwise the phase of the constant term reaches the gluino mass through anomaly mediation. The SUSY-breaking F-term is the main source of the MSSM soft masses, including the gluino mass, so its phase reaches theta-bar as well. In the framework of global SUSY, the 3-2 model introduces no phase. The ISS model is safe for non-degenerate quark masses in that sector; in the degenerate (or nearly degenerate) limit, however, a complex vacuum orientation can generate an O(1) phase. The IYIT model can generate a purely imaginary F-term: for roughly half of the real Yukawa parameter space, the meson VEV is purely imaginary and CP is spontaneously broken. In all three, the vacuum of the field coupled to the messengers is aligned with the constant term, so a complex constant term generates a strong CP phase through a second route, separate from anomaly mediation.

EFT (String) Tower Building

We develop a bottom-up framework to reconstruct the asymptotic spectrum of light towers in four-dimensional N=1 effective field theories directly from their Kähler potential. Our construction uses the Integral Scaling Relation, which relates the mass scales of towers becoming light at infinite distance to the tensions of EFT strings, together with the Emergent String Conjecture applied recursively upon decompactification. These conditions organize the tower scaling vectors into a lattice generated by the EFT-string vectors and select the globally consistent tower polytopes. When applied to Kähler potentials arising from string compactifications, our algorithm precisely reproduces the known arrangements of towers and duality frames. We then classify the admissible polytopes for asymptotic Kähler potentials Ksim-log P(s), with P(s) a homogeneous polynomial of degree at most seven, and show that certain apparently consistent Kähler potentials are incompatible with the assumed quantum-gravity constraints. For general polynomials, additional restrictions arise from gluing the tower arrangements across different growth sectors. Remarkably, every tower polytope allowed by our reconstruction can be obtained as a concrete slice of the polytope associated with M-theory on a Joyce G_2-manifold. This provides evidence for a form of string universality in which EFT strings act as the fundamental building blocks of the UV tower structure in the EFT perturbative regimes.

Convergent Graph Solvers

We propose the convergent graph solver (CGS), a deep learning method that learns iterative mappings to predict the properties of a graph system at its stationary state (fixed point) with guaranteed convergence. CGS systematically computes the fixed points of a target graph system and decodes them to estimate the stationary properties of the system without the prior knowledge of existing solvers or intermediate solutions. The forward propagation of CGS proceeds in three steps: (1) constructing the input dependent linear contracting iterative maps, (2) computing the fixed-points of the linear maps, and (3) decoding the fixed-points to estimate the properties. The contractivity of the constructed linear maps guarantees the existence and uniqueness of the fixed points following the Banach fixed point theorem. To train CGS efficiently, we also derive a tractable analytical expression for its gradient by leveraging the implicit function theorem. We evaluate the performance of CGS by applying it to various network-analytic and graph benchmark problems. The results indicate that CGS has competitive capabilities for predicting the stationary properties of graph systems, irrespective of whether the target systems are linear or non-linear. CGS also shows high performance for graph classification problems where the existence or the meaning of a fixed point is hard to be clearly defined, which highlights the potential of CGS as a general graph neural network architecture.

The ETH matrix model for DSSYK: non-perturbative corrections and intersection theory

At leading order in the genus expansion the ETH matrix model for DSSYK reproduces its correlators by construction, while its higher-genus corrections are conjectured to capture higher-topology contributions in the dual sine-dilaton gravity -- a correspondence established so far only for the disk and the wormhole. At fixed genus the correlators are built from discrete volumes N_{g,n}, polynomial in q-deformed zeta values ζ_q(2k) with q=e^{-λ}, λ being the DSSYK coupling. These lie in the ring of quasimodular forms generated by the Eisenstein series E_2,E_4,E_6, whose S-duality yields an exact closed form for the leading non-perturbative correction as λto0, controlled by widetilde q=e^{-4π^2/λ}. Known at disk level, this scale is shown here to govern the fixed-genus, higher-boundary amplitudes as well. We show that the term linear in widetilde q, at leading order in λ, is captured entirely by the q-deformed Weil--Petersson volumes, and reduces to a finite sum of intersection numbers of κ-classes on the moduli space mathcal M_{g,n} of stable curves, computable without repeating the topological recursion that produced the N_{g,n}. We tabulate it for every (g,n) whose q-deformed volume is known in closed form, and extend it to (3,1),(3,2),(4,1), where none is available. The construction is not restricted to leading order: we work out O(widetilde q^2) for the same cases.

Counting higher-rank sheaves on toric threefolds

We develop an equivariant K-theoretic vertex formalism for a colored, abelianized higher-rank sector on smooth projective toric threefolds X. Nonzero first Chern classes are encoded as magnetic fluxes and absorbed into line-bundle twists, after which the virtual character is redistributed into finite perturbative, vertex, and edge contributions. We compute the resulting (unreduced and trace-free) virtual dimensions and analyze the interaction terms relevant to a possible reduction to rank one. We emphasize that, on a compact toric threefold, colored partitions do not classify all torus-fixed stable higher-rank sheaves: the resulting series is therefore a proposed abelianized/framed vertex series unless an additional comparison theorem with the full stable-sheaf moduli problem is supplied. When the threefold obstruction theory is not available in the desired form, we pass to the local Calabi--Yau fourfold Y=Tot(K_X) and formulate the corresponding colored DT4 vertex. A K_X-twisted tautological insertion removes fixed points with nontrivial fiber layers, reducing solid partitions to plane partitions at the level of the local vertex. In rank one we give a scheme-theoretic explanation: the Hilbert functor of subschemes of X is canonically isomorphic to the constrained Hilbert functor of subschemes of Y lying scheme-theoretically in the fixed zero section. Under the hypotheses of the DT4 K-theoretic Lefschetz/virtual-pullback formalism, the associated support insertion reduces the rank-one fourfold theory to the threefold theory. We keep this global rank-one statement logically distinct from the higher-rank colored-vertex reduction.

Massive On-shell Splitting Functions in Spinor-Helicity Formalism

Collinear splitting functions govern parton evolution, parton showers, and resummation at high-energy colliders. While on-shell spinor-helicity methods have successfully yielded massless QCD splitting functions, a complete on-shell construction for massive particles, systematically incorporating finite-mass effects, is less developed. We present an on-shell constructive formalism for massive collinear splitting functions based on Soper-Weinberg collinear spinors, whose transformation properties follow from a light-front Galilean subgroup of the Poincaré group. Decomposing massive momenta and spinors with respect to fixed lightlike vectors n and bar n makes the expansion in the alignment regime m<p_Tll p_+ manifest. The leading-order structures are matched to massless three-point amplitudes, while an additional Higgs momentum along bar n probes the subleading spinor components and relates them to massless four-point amplitudes. We derive the complete set of leading and subleading massive splitting functions for all Standard Model particles and establish a systematic matching dictionary between massless and massive coupling coefficients at both the three- and four-point levels. Higher-point splitting functions are obtained through the recursive bootstrap relation with a universal substitution rule as a consequence of the Galilean symmetry. This constructive framework extends naturally to effective field theory operators and higher perturbative orders, providing a flexible computational tool for precision collider physics and parton shower development.

Incomplete RG: Hawking-Page transition, C-theorem and relevant scalar deformations of global AdS

We discuss relevant scalar deformations of a holographic theory with a compact boundary. An example of such a theory would be the global AdS_4 with its spatially compact boundary S^2. To introduce a relevant deformation, we choose to turn on a time-independent and spatially homogeneous non-normalizable scalar operator with m^2 = -2. The finite size of a compact boundary cuts down the RG flow at a finite length scale leading to an incomplete RG flow to IR. We discuss a version of {\it incomplete} C-theorem and an {\it incomplete} attractor like mechanism. We discuss the implication of our results for entanglement entropy and geometric quantities like scalar curvature, volume and mass scale of fundamental excitation of the how these quantities increase or decrease (often monotonically) with the strength of the deformation. Thermal physics of a holographic theory defined on a compact boundary is more interesting than its non-compact counterpart. It is well known that with a compact boundary, there is a possibility of a first order Hawking-Page transition dual to a de-confinement phase transition. From a gravity perspective, a relevant deformation dumps negative energy inside the bulk, increasing the effective cosmological constant (Lambda) of the AdS. Dumping more negative energy in the bulk would make the HP transition harder and the corresponding HP transition temperature would increase. However, we have found the size of the BH at the transition temperature decreases.

Exploring Line Bundle Standard Models with Transformers

We propose a Transformer-based Reinforcement Learning architecture, "LB-Explorer", to search for heterotic line bundle standard models arising from compactifications on smooth Calabi-Yau (CY) threefolds. We construct E_8times E_8 vacua with SU(5) symmetry, where the SU(5) can be further broken to the Standard Model gauge group via discrete Wilson lines. We test the LB-Explorer environment on complete intersection Calabi-Yau (CICY) manifolds, though the neural network architecture naturally generalizes to any CY admitting a smooth, simplicial Mori cone and a freely-acting discrete symmetry. The LB-Explorer efficiently learns constraints on the line bundle sums, guaranteeing the E_8 gauge embedding, anomaly cancellation, poly-stability (supersymmetry), chirality of the spectrum, and the absence of exotic matter. Valid configurations can be subsequently filtered by imposing the missing constraints, such as the equivariant structure of the line bundle sum and further requirements on the particle spectrum. In this direction, we introduce a hybrid architecture incorporating CP-SAT solvers that aims to impose some of the conditions exactly by perturbing solutions found by the LB-Explorer. The versatility and scalability of the LB-Explorer make it a powerful tool for navigating the string landscape with a large number of moduli. The code and tools necessary to reproduce our findings are available at https://github.com/alexmininno/LB-Explorer

Multiplicity of Finsler geodesics and electromagnetic trajectories via localized deformations

Given a Finsler manifold (M,F) and suitable nested regions B_1subset B_2subset B_3, with Msetminus B_1 connected and non-contractible, as in the model case of concentric balls in mathbb R^n, ngeq2, we consider conformal deformations φ_λF which can be chosen so as to leave F unchanged outside B_3 and grow on B_2setminus B_1. This growth creates an energy barrier, diverging with λ, that low-energy curves cannot cross. The minimax families can therefore be chosen in the path space of Msetminus B_1, which contains compact subsets of arbitrarily large category. Consequently, for every minmathbb N and all sufficiently large λ, there exist at least m geodesics joining two prescribed points, all avoiding B_1. This extends to the Finsler setting an idea of Capozzi, Fortunato and Greco. The same scheme applies to Randers metrics α+β, with α deformed and β unchanged, as well as to fixed-energy trajectories of non-relativistic electromagnetic systems and relativistic Lorentz-force trajectories, and light rays in spacetimes endowed with a causal Killing field. In the non-relativistic case only the scalar potential is perturbed, while the magnetic field is preserved. When the Killing field is not everywhere timelike, the Fermat principle yields a possibly singular Randers--Kropina metric on a spacelike hypersurface. Under a natural admissible category condition, combining localized barriers with Randers approximation gives m Randers--Kropina geodesics with pairwise distinct lengths, equivalently m future-pointing light rays with pairwise distinct arrival times.

General teleparallel geometric theory of defects

We revisit the geometric theory of defects. In the differential-geometric models of defects that have been adopted since the 1950s, dislocations have been associated with torsion, disclinations with the full curvature, and point defects with the first kind trace of non-metricity. The mainstream formulation exhibits several conceptual and technical shortcomings, most notably a hierarchy inconsistency, the non-exictence of a genuine metric formulation, and the potential emergence of Ostrogradsky-type instabilities. These issues have motivated us to develop a new framework, namely a generalized teleparallel geometric theory of defects. In our model, dislocations are identified with the trace of torsion, disclinations with the second kind trace of the non-metricity, and point defects with the first kind trace of the non-metricity. In addition, we retain the scalar part torsion as a free parameter for describing some possible unknown degrees of freedom in the theory of defects. The proposed geometric theory of defects is free from all of the aforementioned drawbacks and is therefore worthy of further investigation. To ensure the coherence and completeness of the discussion, we begin our analysis with elastic deformations, then summarize the existing metric-affine geometric theory of defects, and finally proceed to our original contribution, namely the new theory introduced here. We formulate the entire theory in Eulerian coordinates. Naturally, all results can be reformulated in Lagrangian coordinates as well. All analyses and formulae are expressed in the language of exterior algebra and are carried out in coordinate-independent orthonormal frames.

Quantum geometry at arbitrary genus - I: Anharmonic potentials

In quantum mechanics of genus-1 potentials, perturbation theory around the topologically trivial saddle and non-perturbative instanton saddle are constructively related via the P/NP relation. Whether such a relation persists for higher-genus potentials has remained an open problem. In this work, we resolve it using tools from complex algebraic geometry combined with exact WKB. The classical energy conservation relation p^2 = 2(E-V(q)) defines a genus-g Riemann surface X, whose periods are naturally organized by its Jacobian variety J(X) = C^{g}/Λ via the Abel-Jacobi map, and independently by the solution basis of the associated Picard-Fuchs equations. We show that the physically relevant, WKB-active cycles are generally related to the Picard-Fuchs basis by a linear transformation that lies in SL(2g,Z) but not in the symplectic group Sp(2g,Z) once ggeq2, in contrast to the genus-1 case, where the two groups coincide. This mismatch is the obstruction that has made an explicit higher-genus P/NP relation elusive. We show that it can be resolved by passing to a modified Riemann bilinear identity, built from a suitably transformed intersection matrix, which the WKB-active periods do satisfy exactly. The result is an all-orders quantum P/NP relation valid for potentials of arbitrary genus, which we derive explicitly for genus-2 (quintic and sextic) and genus-3 (septic and octic) anharmonic oscillators.

Stability of Superconducting Strings

We investigate the stability of superconducting strings as bound states of strings and fermion zero modes at both the classical and quantum levels. The dynamics of these superconducting strings can result in a stable configuration, known as a vorton. We mainly focus on global strings, but the majority of the discussion can be applied to local strings. Using lattice simulations, we study the classical dynamics of superconducting strings and confirm that they relax to the vorton configuration through Nambu-Goldstone boson radiation, with no evidence of over-shooting that would destabilize the vorton. We explore the tunneling of fermion zero modes out of the strings. Both our classical analysis and quantum calculations yield consistent results: the maximum energy of the zero mode significantly exceeds the fermion mass, in contrast to previous literature. Additionally, we introduce a world-sheet formalism to evaluate the decay rate of zero modes into other particles, which constitute the dominant decay channel. We also identify additional processes that trigger zero-mode decay due to non-adiabatic changes of the string configuration. In these decay processes, the rates are suppressed by the curvature of string loops, with exponential suppression for large masses of the final states. We further study the scattering with light charged particles surrounding the string core produced by the zero-mode current and find that a wide zero-mode wavefunction can enhance vorton stability.

Extensions of Schoen--Simon--Yau and Schoen--Simon theorems via iteration à la De Giorgi

We give an alternative proof of the Schoen--Simon--Yau curvature estimates and associated Bernstein-type theorems (1975), and extend the original result by including the case of 6-dimensional (stable minimal) immersions. The key step is an ε-regularity theorem, that assumes smallness of the scale-invariant L^2 norm of the second fundamental form. Further, we obtain a graph description, in the Lipschitz multi-valued sense, for any stable minimal immersion of dimension ngeq 2, that may have a singular set Σ of locally finite H^{n-2}-measure, and that is weakly close to a hyperplane. (In fact, if H^{n-2}(Σ)=0, the conclusion is strengthened to a union of smooth graphs.) This follows directly from an ε-regularity theorem, that assumes smallness of the scale-invariant L^2 tilt-excess (verified when the hypersurface is weakly close to a hyperplane). Specialising the multi-valued decomposition to the case of embeddings, we recover the Schoen--Simon theorem (1981). In both ε-regularity theorems the relevant quantity (respectively, length of the second fundamental form and tilt function) solves a non-linear PDE on the immersed minimal hypersurface. The proof is carried out intrinsically (without linearising the PDE) by implementing an iteration method à la De Giorgi (from the linear De Giorgi--Nash--Moser theory). Stability implies estimates (intrinsic weak Caccioppoli inequalities) that make the iteration effective despite the non-linear framework. (In both ε-regularity theorems the method gives explicit constants that quantify the required smallness.)

Polynomial Acceleration of Alternating Projections: Chebyshev Acceleration, Convergence Rates, and Retractions

Alternating projections (AP) near a clean intersection of smooth manifolds can converge slowly when the Friedrichs angle is small. We develop the Fixed-Point Manifold Acceleration (FPMA) framework for {local convergence and polynomial acceleration of} smooth maps that fix a manifold pointwise. {Under suitable regularity and uniform normal spectral stability, FPMA establishes local R-linear convergence and a smooth limiting map inducing a local retraction. At fixed points, consistent polynomial acceleration with p(1)=1 preserves the selected limit's first-order response to normal initial perturbations whenever the transformed normal blocks are uniformly spectrally stable. Under sufficient smoothness, we give a curvature criterion for second-order induced retractions and show that stable consistent polynomial acceleration preserves both the quadratic retraction expansion and this criterion. {As a special case, we establish new local R-linear convergence guarantees for fixed-degree Chebyshev-accelerated exact AP and second-order induced retractions. For uniform Friedrichs angle θ_Fin(0,π/2), acceleration strictly improves the local convergence rate per AP evaluation. The large-degree limiting spectral factor at fixed θ_F predicts O(θ_F^{-1}) evaluations for fixed relative error reduction as θ_Fdownarrow0, versus O(θ_F^{-2}) for ordinary AP.}} {The framework also covers} inexact, relaxed, and generalized AP {under their respective regularity and stability conditions.}
